The Swimmer

No, this has nothing to do with a messed up Burt Lancaster movie OR the John Cheever short story on which it was based. Instead, the dog swam!

Yes, Sydney can swim! If you don't know Sydney, she is our (currently) 10 month old golden retriever (she comes through this line, but I can't find her breeder's website). During the heat yesterday, we took her to the dog park for her second attempt at swimming. The first time, she was too busy being attacked by the gang of nasty (read horny), male dogs to even THINK about swimming. Not that dogs should think about it. It's a survival instinct, isn't it? Shouldn't they just do it? Well, that's why we took her back to swim again.

This time, she was again reluctant to get in the water. Luckily, Mark, the dog trainer, was at the park and he got the Kidney Bean into the water. She had a ball, and was REALLY crazy (and eventually tired out (see the last picture)) by swimming. Plus, this was the first time in her life where Sydney actually chased down a ball, brought it back, and released it without being asked...LIKE A REAL RETRIEVER!!!

It was really fun to watch, though I know not everyone else is as crazy about Syd as we are, yet I feel like I have to share these pictures. She's too cute (when she's not being fresh).
